It was really nice to look through the photos again from the wedding and organise them into an album. I enjoyed being creative with some of the backgrounds and using their backdrop from the day to create a mirror image effect. My favourite page is of the rings in the centre of the page and the ceremony photographs around the outside.

When creating each of our albums, the proofs are emailed to the bride and groom to be checked before we print their album. This then gives them the opportunity to decide if they want to change any layouts or photos.

It was a lovely wedding and I was lucky enough to find a perfect location behind the church to take bride and groom portraits:

I generally ask the bride and groom to walk away from me in order to create a more natural photograph.

As part of the package the couple also booked our photobooth:

These photographs are then added to a gallery and made downloadable so guests can select any photos that they wants. The images are also supplied on the couple's USB.

Congratulations to Hannah and Neil! I wish you many years of happiness.

Lympne Castle Wedding Charlton Photography were lucky enough to be back at Lympne Castle last week for the wedding of Debbie & Dan; the venue looked stunning, as always.

After a rainy start it turned into a lovely day with blue skies and an opportunity for guests to enjoy the day outside at this beautiful venue.

We were very fortunate to work with Sonja Weed from The Whistable Cake Company who delivered a fantastic cake as always:

And Ian Gladwell from Celebration sounds disco who never fails to supply fantastic evening music and lighting:

One of my favourite pictures was:

Port Lympne Wedding During our last wedding of 2014, Charlton Photography were lucky enough to work with many fantastic suppliers at a beautiful venue.

One of our favourite photos shows the amazing grounds at Port Lympne:

Charlton Photography would like to thank the bride and groom for our involvement in this winter wonderland wedding. The bride said 'Our special day was yesterday and wouldn't have been possible without the help of some fantastic people. so thank you'.
We were fortunate to work with Sonja Weed again from 'The Whistable Cake Company', whose cakes always look and taste wonderful. The snow flakes on the cake echoed the theme for the winter wedding.
The venue definitely looked like a scene from a winter wonderland with the backdrop and flowers making it all seem magical.
The chairs, covered by 'Chair Cover Hire Kent', looked stunning as always.
The day was definitely made easier as a result of the organisation from the Toastmaster, Ian Low and working along side Matt Barker who creates some of the best marryokes I have seen.
The bride looked stunning:

It was a fantastic end to the year and a pleasure to work alongside some amazing wedding suppliers.

Charity Event Charlton Photography took part in a Charity event this weekend to raise money for the Pilgrim's Hospice ( - it was a fantastic evening where several local Kent wedding suppliers provided their services free of charge for the charity. Our photo booth was set up at the event and all money raised from sales / downloads of these photographs has been donated to the hospice fund.

It is great to be able to do events like this now and then, just to make a little difference to people's lives.

Photo of the Week 4

Our photo of the week today comes from our first visit to one of Kent's most popular venues: Cooling Castle Barn ( I wanted to use the full length of this part of the venue so had the image in mind prior to arriving on Claire & Paul's wedding day.

My wife, being an English teacher has turned this from an "arty" image into a philosophical image: Apparently it symbolises the coming together of two people who only become whole when they are together. I personally just like it as a photo though! :-)

Choosing your Wedding Album Chaos Made Easy and Effortless - Choosing the photographs for your wedding album can be a minefield, which do you choose?!
Five Steps to Success:
1) Ask your photographer for a rough guide for the amount of photos that you need.
2) Choose your favourite photos; this might seem difficult if you have lots from your special day. You can narrow this list down by checking you haven't got duplicates of similar poses or at similar locations.
3) Check that you have the key areas and special moments of the day covered if you want a storybook layout:
Getting Ready / Bridal Prep
Groom Arriving
The Jackdaw, WeddingThe Jackdaw, Wedding
 Bride Arriving
Cliffe WeddingCliffe Wedding
Rochester WeddingRochester Wedding
Group shots
Bride and Groom Pictures
The Jackdaw WeddingThe Jackdaw Wedding
First Dance
Cliffe WeddingCliffe Wedding
4) Be really clear with your photographer on what you like from their samples and what you do not. Decide on if you would prefer some photos in the background or just a plain colour. Your photographer can guide you on which pictures are suited to be in the background.
5) Relax and wait for your perfect wedding album to arrive so you can look back on your special day and enjoy it all over again.
Good luck,
Charlton Photography.

Photo of the Week 2

This weeks photo of the week was taken at Lympne Castle, Kent ( Fresh in our mind as we will visiting the castle on Thursday to meet a potential bride. There was actually a wedding reception happening at the time of this photograph bring taken, we just had to be patient and wait for a completely empty courtyard! The image is actually edited in HDR combining three separate images to bring out as much detail as possible, combined with a moody sky it is one of our favourites!

Photo of the Week

We thought we would start adding a photograph of the week Blog. Not necessarily taken in the current week nor solely from our Wedding Photography but a mixture from all aspects of photography that we undertake.

Here is our first Photo of the Week! Taken at a wedding at the lovely St Augustine's Westgate ( The glasses speak for themselves, a champagne tower for the bride and groom. The background lights were actually from a Christmas Tree! This was a Christmas wedding just a few days before 25th December with a lovely festive feel to it. We love the warmth and colour in this photograph so thought we would make it our very first photo of the week!

Testimonials We have been so busy lately that we have only recently had the opportunity to collate all of our feedback. It has been fantastic to look back over the past year and see all the fantastic responses to our work.

It is great to feel as if we are part of the day; it is even better when we receive feedback from our clients themselves, this is why we love photographing weddings.

We always strive to create natural photographs that make the bride and groom feel relaxed. We try to support the couple in any way we can and we are so happy when we receive feedback.

Dear Dan
Just a quick note to say a big thank you for the lovely photos we have seen on your website.

Hi Dan
Just a brief note to say a massive thank you! Lisa & I really loved your photo style and approachable manner. Right up until the day any questions we had were quickly answered leaving no worries or concerns on the day. All the photos we asked for were there and many, many more far exceeding our expectations.
Such a natural finish to every photo because you and your colleague were stealth like most of the time making the day much more relaxed and fun rather than having to pose for every single photograph. Nothing was too much trouble when our videographer let us down last minute you managed to find time to fit that in as well.
Our photos arrived 2 weeks sooner than expected, with 3 DVD copies put to the music of our choice and all photographs on a memory stick. Our day felt magical on the day although it went too quick, this way we can go back and see parts we missed. Memories captured for a lifetime.
As we have done already and shall continue to recommend you, & your business for weddings and other events.
Many Thanks
Tony & Lisa

How to choose your wedding photographer Ten steps to choosing your photographer:
1) Decide on a style that matches your requirements for your Wedding.
Do you prefer natural:
Westgate WeddingWestgate Wedding
Photos taken at St. Augustine's Westgate-on-sea ( and Bilsington Priory, Ashford (
Or posed:
Photos taken at Little Hermitage ( and Abbots Barton Hotel, Canterbury (
2) Set a budget with your partner.
3) Use groups:
Or forums:
You and your wedding
These can help you discover who other brides/grooms and suppliers are recommending; through hearing this you can then decide on the photographers that you would like more information on.
4) Look at the photographer's website and check they cover your area.
5) Look at their galleries and see if their style is what you have decided on. Read their blogs: this sometimes includes a larger range of photographs taken from one single wedding. This should give you an idea of what you can expect from a whole day.
6) Some photographers will include their prices on their website, but you may have to get in contact and ask for a quote to check their prices are within your budget.
7) Speak to your photographer and ensure they have the same vision for your wedding day and also check that you are happy with them. At this point you may wish to arrange a meeting with them. Having this at your chosen venue may mean you get the opportunity to discuss specific shots that you require. You should always feel that you can get in contact with your photographer and ask any question that you feel is appropriate.
8) If you arrange a meeting then decide on questions that you and your partner would like answered. One of these questions might be to see proof of insurance so you know that they are covered if anything goes wrong on your special day.
9) Read the photographer's contract and fine print so you are confident on the service you are receiving.
10) Look forward to your wedding knowing that you have chosen the photographer that is best for you.
Good luck,

Albums A Look Back on the Last Year

I really enjoy designing albums and creatively displaying the events of days. The use of candid pictures often show the couple the enjoyment of their wedding that they may not have seen.
This current album I just created is for our own portfolio; whilst designing it I was aware that it would need to demonstrate the different styles that are available for your own wedding album. It was also exciting to see a collection of our pictures from different weddings, reminding us of the fun Charlton Photography has had this year.
Below are a few different styles that can be chosen when you choose which album you would like:
Style: 12x8", leather, acrylic cover.
Wedding Venues Featured: Scotney Castle. (
Style: Background photograph of dress and shoes; shaded border.

January is always the busiest time of the Year for taking new bookings and this year has been no different: we have taken bookings for both wedding photography and portraits over the next few years with 2015 looking like a very popular year to get married!

2013 Summary With our final wedding of 2013 now all complete and the DVD/USB sent off to the new Mr & Mrs Robinson we thought it was time to reflect on what has happened over the last year for Charlton Photography.

Nothing like a Christmas Wedding to get you in the mood for the season. Three days before Christmas we shot a wedding at St Augustine's
Every little detail of this Wedding screamed out the feeling of Christmas and made the wedding even more magical.
It was also good to work with suppliers that we had worked with before.
My Hair Angels
The best thing was seeing the bride and groom so happy on their wedding day.

Wedding Photography is a never-ending learning curve and we strive to learn something new at each and every wedding we attend; 2013 was no different. We have worked at some beautiful venues for the first time as well as revisiting some of our favourties. To name a few: Old Kent Barn, Abbots Barton Hotel, Judd's Folly, Cooling Castle, Folkestone Grand, Bilsington Priory, St Augustines Westgate-On-Sea, St Edmund's Canterbury, Lympne Castle, George Hotel Chatham & Dover College.
